Like a River 03:59
Like a river that runs to the sea Like the way you look at me It don’t change nothing from day to day The sun comes up and it goes away Takes the hard times to balance the good Takes the sun to balance the moon Takes a careful step lest you fall Trying to balance the weight of it all China was the miners’ friend Fed them biscuits when they came in Helped them dig on through to the sky Never asked the reason why One thing she never knew was their part In the success of the crew Mining the moon is like a slow dream You’ve got to take it all scene for scene Ruby caves and golden veins Keep them leaning against the strain Some go out the garbage chute Some go out with sizeable gains Them that ain’t seeing rainbows Are doing good to keep their shadows on Living in this two faced night Small steps on a road so long

Abilene 03:54
Stars pull the sky across Texas Wind blows through my life Your hold on my heart After all of this time Echoes into the night The moon is parked above Abilene Silent and serene The moon is parked above Abilene No more alone than me Road holds onto the landscape Headlights hold onto the road At a hundred and five I’m still haunted by The candlelight and the rose The moon is parked Above Abilene Single and serene Some days I sail On the river of life, Some days on death’s black ice. But I’m doing fine Just holding that line As I mail you this letter tonight

about

Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and vocalist Michael Shay has worked in countless genres through his many musical projects. Having known Jim Harris for 25 of the 50 years he has been writing songs, Shay previously included at least one of Harris' songs on all his earlier vocal albums. For this project, a lush and elegant production by an international cast of artists, Shay fully explores the deeply poetic work of this undiscovered Texas songwriter. Recorded in Austin, Quito Ecuador, and Portland Oregon, "Like a River" is a uniquely poetic production in both words and music. Mellow, rich, and ever so slightly country.

about

Michael Shay Austin, Texas

Blending the nuance of a classically-trained musician, the twang of a born-and-bred Texan, and a genre-bouncing career spent collaborating with musicians from around the world, Michael Shay's vision exists comfortably outside any "Americana" box while still evoking his earliest influences: Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Dylan, and the Dead.
